Now proudly operating with the Pueblo Heritage Museum, we house an extensive collection that includes over 25,000 historic photographs, a research library with more than 10,000 books and periodicals, and a variety of historical artifacts on display. A cornerstone of our work is The Pueblo Lore, a beloved publication that continues to connect community members with the stories of our past. Whether through genealogy research, exhibitions, or publications, we remain committed to bringing together those passionate about local history.

The Center celebrates the character and sacrifices of America’s heroes through its powerful Portraits of Valor gallery — featuring more than 140 Congressional Medal of Honor recipients and their stories. Along with reflective exhibits and meaningful displays like the World Trade Center Steel Memorial, it’s a free, thought-provoking stop for visitors of all ages. Open daily with no admission fee.

We were inspired to start this venture out of a passion for fostering connections between local farmers, entrepreneurs, and the community at large. Our market season runs from May through October, held Saturday mornings from 7:30 a.m. to noon at historic Mineral Palace Park.

The site was rediscovered in1989, by a class led by anthropology professor William G. Buckles of the University of Southern Colorado (now CSU-Pueblo). Following this discovery, the city and the Colorado Historical Society worked together to relocate the museum to the site. The current museum complex was completed in 2003, and includes the main building containing three exhibits and multiple event rental spaces,a reconstruction of the El Pueblo trading postshowcasing life during the mid-19th century,and the Warren G. Buckles Archaeology Pavilion where the excavation site remains open to this day.

Visitors can see all of this, as well as purchase regional foods and crafts, books on Pueblo, Colorado, and western history, and Colorado souvenirs in the Colorado Proud museum store.
